Introduction of CAIT
China Association of International Trade (hereinafter called CAIT) was founded in July, 1981. It is the first national academic group of international trade that has been founded since Chinese Reform and Opening Up. Working directly under the Ministry of Commerce of the P. R. China, CAIT is made up of experts from government agencies, academic organizations and business circles and is specialized in research on and exchange of foreign trade.
In the past 27 years since it was founded, under the leadership of Ministry of Commerce and with the support of the all its members, CAIT pays constant attention to the situation of international trade and foreign trade of China, and is active in conducting academic research and exchange, specialist education and consulting activities, etc. Specifically, the routine work of CAIT every year includes holding annual conferences and seminars of specific topics, making investigation trips abroad, and receiving foreign scholars that pay visit to China, etc.
By combining academic study and trade practices, CAIT provides services not only to government agencies of all levels but also to enterprises, academic organizations, universities and colleges, etc. Moreover, CAIT offers a great variety of publications. Through all the efforts, CAIT makes great contributions in propagating research findings and knowledge of international economy and trade, in popularizing the achievement and experience of Chinese Reform and Opening Up, and in providing advice and services to governments and business circles.
The present Council of CAIT has 256 members, including 89 executive members. Present leaders of CAIT are as follows:
Honorary president: Shen Jueren, former Vice Minister of Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation of the P. R. China, Honorary President of Japan-China Economic Association, Vice President of Association for the Promotion of Chinese Investment and Development.
President: Shi Yonghai, research scholar, former president of Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, former Economic and Commercial Minister-Counselor of Chinese Embassy in Japan.
Vice President (double as Secretary General): Liu Baorong, former Secretary of Party Committee of Chinese Academy of International Trade and Economic Cooperation, former Economic and Commercial Counselor of Chinese Embassy in the Republic of Ukraine and in Estonia.
Vice President: Li Pengwang, former Vice President (double as Secretary General) of China Chamber of Commerce for Import and Export of Medicines and Health Products (CCCMHPIE), former Economic and Commercial Counselor of Chinese Embassy in Mauritania.
Part-time Vice President: Miao Gengshu, Chinaman of the Board of China National Foreign Trade Transportation (Group) Corporation (SINOTRANS), Director of Association for Relations across the Taiwan Strait, former General President of China Minmetals Corporation, former Deputy Director of Shanghai Foreign Economic Relation and Trade Commission.
Part-time Vice President: Wang Runsheng, Deputy Director of China Foreign Trade Center, Executive Director and General Manager of China Foreign Trade Center (Group), Deputy Director of China Import and Export Fair.
Part-time Vice President: Yao Wang, Chief Supervisor of the Secretariat of Boao Forum for Asia, President of Beijing Academy of International Economy and Trade.
Part-time Vice President: Lin Guijun, Deputy President of the University of International Business and Economics (UIBE), Professor, Doctoral Supervisor.
Part-time Vice President: Yu Danhua, Director of Ningbo Foreign Trade and Economic Cooperation Bureau.
Part-time Vice President: Li Peisheng, Deputy Director of Tianjin Commission of Commerce.
Part-time Vice President: Ren Haijin, General Manager of Zhejiang Metals and Minerals Import and Export Corporation.
The present Council of CAIT has established Research Society of English for International Business, Research Society of Japanese for International Business, Board of Conference and Fair Specialties, and has set up Secretariat, General Office, Editorial Office, Training Office, Consulting Office, etc as the permanent working offices of CAIT.
